HMD Arc is an entry-level 4G Android phone for calls, messaging, browsing and ordinary media. Its focus is affordability and repair practicality, not high-end graphics. A 6.52-inch screen, 4GB physical RAM and 5,000mAh battery are sensible everyday ingredients, but its low screen resolution and modest processor set the limits. It is more useful for basic smartphone work than for demanding gaming.
Display, handling and daily comfort
The 6.52-inch LCD uses a 576 by 1280 resolution at 60Hz. Text and video remain readable, but fine details are not as sharp as on a modern FHD display, and animations lack the fluidity of 90Hz or 120Hz panels. HMD lists 460 nits peak brightness. For users who spend significant time outdoors, testing legibility under strong daylight is worthwhile.
Processor, memory and app experience
Unisoc SC9863A runs the phone with Android 14 Go edition. Go is a lighter Android configuration designed for lower-cost hardware, but it is not a promise that heavy applications will operate like they do on a midrange device. HMD lists 4GB physical RAM and 64GB storage, with optional virtual memory. Storage converted into virtual memory must not be counted as extra physical RAM.
Cameras and realistic photo expectations
The 13MP autofocus rear camera and 5MP front unit suit document scans, video calls and simple daylight photos. HMD lists portrait, night and panorama modes, but a named mode is not evidence that photos match those from more expensive handsets. There is no dedicated telephoto camera. Anyone buying principally for photography should look at a stronger camera model rather than a higher software zoom number.
Battery and charging behavior
The 5,000mAh battery supports 10W wired charging. HMD gives an up-to endurance figure based on its own procedure; it should not be read as a guarantee of equal runtime on every network or with every app. The slower charging figure means overnight top-ups can be more convenient than last-minute charging. USB-C simplifies finding a compatible cable.
Useful features and practical limitations
HMD highlights a repair-oriented design, a side-mounted fingerprint reader and two years of quarterly security updates. The regional IP rating requires care: HMD lists IP52 for AMEA and IP54 for some European variants. For Pakistan readers, the AMEA figure is the relevant qualified value, and neither grade makes the device waterproof. The headphone jack and FM radio are practical extras.
Pakistan price, warranty and availability
HMD Pakistan displays a starting price for Arc, but the phone’s availability and retailer prices can vary. Verify the local warranty and IMEI details and pay attention to whether the device is actually a 4GB/64GB variant. A local listing for the newer Arc² should not automatically be treated as an Arc listing; the names are close but not interchangeable.
How it compares with alternatives
Arc² is the natural newer comparison: it has very similar display, camera and battery specifications but slightly different styling and weight. HMD Asha 305 is much smaller and uses a different Pulse OS, while a gaming-focused Infinix GT is a completely different performance class. Choose according to app requirements rather than the fact that all are called smartphones.
Buying recommendation
HMD Arc is best for someone who wants 4G data, Google-style Android usability and a large battery at a restrained price. It is not ideal for heavy multitasking, demanding games or sharp high-resolution viewing. The repairability promise is welcome, but check whether the necessary parts and service are realistically available where you live before treating it as a guaranteed saving.
Getting useful performance from the HMD Arc
HMD Arc's most important limitations come from its processor and relatively low-resolution display, not from the absence of premium styling. A light setup can make ownership more pleasant: install only the apps you actually need, review permissions and avoid keeping many heavy applications running. Use a microSD card for supported pictures and music so the built-in storage has room for updates and essential apps. A card does not make the processor faster or turn Android Go into a full flagship environment. For someone buying a first smartphone for a relative, check that text size, call volume, emergency contacts and fingerprint setup are comfortable. HMD's repair-oriented approach is a worthwhile consideration, though parts availability and local repair service should be verified independently. The 10W charging capability also makes daily charging habits worth discussing with the future owner. These practical details matter more than synthetic gaming scores for a phone intended mainly for messages, maps and occasional video.
For learners and older family members, an Android Go device can be a reasonable first step from a keypad phone. Configure the screen lock, automatic security updates and a backup method at setup. Heavy game installation may quickly consume a 64GB storage budget once system files and photos are included. The microSD slot helps with media, not the speed of the processor.
