Huawei Nova 8 Pro: practical review and buying guide
The Huawei nova 8 Pro is the large-screen member of the nova 8 family, with a 6.72-inch 120 Hz OLED, Kirin 985 5G processor and two front cameras. Those distinctions matter more than the Pro label. The dual front cutout and higher refresh rate make it noticeably different from the basic nova 8 and SE.
A Pakistani price-reference listing carries a figure of PKR 97,999 for a corresponding model, but this is not a confirmed in-stock offer or an appraisal of a particular used handset. Memory, warranty and PTA status can change the amount a buyer should pay.
Screen, design and daily handling
The curved 2676 × 1236 OLED display offers more workspace and smoother movement than the smaller nova 8 SE. A 120 Hz panel is useful for menus, long article scrolling and compatible animations, but applications do not all run at that frame rate. Test the upper corners and curves for dead zones before buying a used example.
Processor, RAM and storage
Huawei’s Kirin 985 5G hardware sits above the more affordable Dimensity options found in the SE series. The 8 GB RAM allocation is practical for switching between several everyday apps, while 128 GB and 256 GB storage options should be distinguished in listings. No microSD slot means the original storage choice is permanent.
Plan storage before purchase. The Huawei Nova 8 Pro cannot accept a normal microSD card. Take account of offline video, camera files, downloaded maps and WhatsApp media when selecting a storage version. Cloud backup and an external USB drive can help with archives, but neither turns a small internal storage configuration into a larger one for app installation.
What the cameras really offer
A 64 MP main rear camera leads a set with an 8 MP ultrawide, 2 MP macro and 2 MP depth sensor. The more unusual camera arrangement is on the front: a 32 MP ultrawide shooter sits beside a 16 MP portrait camera. That makes the Pro interesting for wide selfies and group video calling, though the dual cutout occupies more display area.
Battery capacity and charging
The 4,000 mAh battery uses Huawei’s 66 W wired charging system. The large, high-refresh OLED can increase power consumption compared with a smaller 60 Hz display, so battery life depends strongly on brightness and usage. Check the supplied charger and cable, and inspect for swelling or unusual heating before purchase.
Software and app compatibility
The Chinese 5G version shipped with EMUI rather than a standard Google-certified Android installation. This can change app sourcing, account synchronization and push notification behavior. A 5G label also does not establish that every Pakistani operator band is supported by a particular imported model.
Do not confuse Android-based EMUI with Google certification. AppGallery, Huawei services and third-party distribution do not guarantee that an application relying on Play Services will work. Features such as map location, login verification, mobile payments and background notifications can have different requirements. Check the exact apps you use instead of relying on a generic statement that all Android apps are available.
Buying and checking this phone in Pakistan
A Pakistani price reference exists for the nova 8 Pro, but a listed figure does not prove that a sealed, officially warranted 5G handset is in stock. The exact BRQ model identity and its SIM behavior should be checked before using any reference price. Verify PTA registration on the handset’s own IMEI, not the seller’s description.
Network compatibility is a model-specific question. The Huawei Nova 8 Pro includes 5G hardware in the version described here, but that does not automatically mean every local frequency band or operator feature will work. LTE calling, stable mobile data, the SIM configuration and the exact model code should be tested on the phone itself. A 5G logo is not proof of usable 5G service in every area.
Alternatives and trade-offs
The smaller nova 8 has a 90 Hz display and a single 32 MP selfie camera, which can make it easier to handle. The SE is simpler and charges at the same rated 66 W, but its 60 Hz OLED and different processor make it a lower-tier option. The Pro is best justified by its display and front-camera hardware.
What to inspect before deciding
For the Huawei Nova 8 Pro, begin with the exact model shown in Settings, compare its physical RAM and storage with the advertisement, and inspect the display under both dark and bright backgrounds. Open the camera app and switch between the lenses that the phone actually has. Record a short video, listen to the microphone and both available speaker channels, and inspect the USB charging port. Do not accept an untested battery or a photographed IMEI as conclusive evidence of condition.
On an imported Huawei, also check the language settings, AppGallery access, authentication apps and whether the installed firmware matches the intended market. Confirm PTA registration from the IMEI displayed by the device. If the phone offers a regional memory-card format, include the cost and availability of that accessory in your decision.
Who should choose it
Choose the nova 8 Pro when you specifically value the large 120 Hz screen and dual selfie setup, and when the required apps work on the actual device. Imported firmware, uncertain warranty and the state of its aging battery deserve more attention than any brochure claim.
